After hitting the Kerala coast, cyclone Tauktae has shifted towards Goa. Goa is
experiencing heavy rainfall since Sunday 16th May 2021 morning.
Similar rainfall is being experienced in the Sindhudurg district of the Konkan region of Maharashtra.
Mumbai is on high alert, expecting heavy rains on Monday. In view of this BMC has suspended the vaccination drive on Monday.
The IMD has issued an ‘orange alert’. This means heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the entire Konkan and hilly areas of western Maharashtra, mainly Kolhapur and Satara on Sunday and Monday.
As per IMD’s forecast, the cyclone is likely to cause heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of Gujarat namely Junagadh, Gir Somnath, and districts of Saurashtra, Kutch, and Diu, namely Diu, Porbandar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Amreli, Rajkot, Jamnagar.
“Cyclone Tauktae will turn into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 12 hours and intensify further. It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and reach Gujarat coast in the morning of 18th May and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya around 18th May Afternoon/evening.
The Indian Air Force has kept 16 transport aircraft and 18 helicopters in readiness in peninsular India as part of preparations to deal with the situation that could arise out of cyclone Tauktae.
